BONNEVILLE STREAMLINER
The Brine Shrimp team tested their Bonneville streamliner in the ARC wind tunnel to do flow visualization of their vehicle last month. Having done straight line airport testing, they found the weather conditions too unpredictable and needed a stable test environment.
With the rules classification of their streamliner, the physical size of it made it able to put the actual streamliner into the tunnel without tunnel blockage issues. The team found their design was very near an optimum shape with only a single area needing future development.

DUAL BALANCE SYSTEM
The ARC dual balance system separates out force loads between the tractor and trailer. As the only physical measurement device of its kind, our dual balance system allows tractor and trailer manufactures to independently optimize the aerodynamics of their product while under the influence of both tractor and trailer combinations. Future GHG legislation will make understanding the individual contributions of the tractor versus the trailer much more important.
By separating out the loads, the dual balance system also helps to correlate CFD results. Even OEM's who primarily do their development using CFD have found the dual balance system a major benefit to ensure their simulations translate to the real world road conditions.

ARC EXPANDS INTO ASIAN MARKETS
Over the past eight months ARC has been awarded several aerodynamic projects from different companies in Asia, with a growing interest from several other OEM's. In addition, ARC's ELEMENTS CFD software is being used in major engineering facilities along with a strong pull for expanded growth in several major OEM's in both China and South Korea.
OEM interest in ARC's capabilities has been very positive. The recent change in the Chinese Government's direction to reduce Greenhouse Gases and increase fuel economy means our timing for expanding into Asia couldn't have been better.

How do I to choose between 7 & 4-post testing?
The difference between using a 7 or 4 post test depends on the type of vehicle and if the car is dominated by mechanical or aerodynamic grip.
As the name 4-post implies, only four of the hydraulic actuators are used. This configuration is often used for road cars and low aero race car where each tire is on an individual actuator. Using the 4-post also requires the lowest amount of setup. A car can be rolled into the shaker rig and after attaching six accelerometers testing can begin.
When aerodynamic loads become prevalent, the 7-post is used. It does require an additional chassis mounting structure to attach the three additional posts which must be designed and built prior to arriving at the rig. With the 7-post configuration a complete lap can be replayed to the car and the data analyzed. This gives a complete picture of the vehicle dynamics at the track.
