HISTORICAL INDYCAR AERODYNAMICS
The 100th running, of the greatest spectacle in racing, the Indianapolis 500, is almost here! In conjunction with Indycar, ARC took the unique opportunity to look back at some of the most famous cars and analyzed their aerodynamics using CFD. The Marmon Wasp, Kurtis Kraft 500C, and Lotus 38, along with recent Indycars were examined.
Many interesting features were found throughout the cars. The 1954 Kurtis Kraft which had a neatly packaged suspension that generates almost the same amount of drag, as the modern cars. While the Lotus 38 employed the use of a unique double windshield, which cut down on pressure build up at the base of it.
Keep a watch on both Indycar.com and ARC's social media account for the full feature to be released around race day!
