ARC is proud to add the Volvo VN670 to its library of rental scale wind tunnel models. The Volvo VN670 is the highest production volume truck in the Volvo lineup. The VN670 is available for wind tunnel testing.
This model will allow fleets to hone their efficiency based on their tractor and trailer setup. It will also allow governments to continue GHG rules development and allow for aftermarket parts to be approved for the EPA SmartWay program. ARC can assist with the SmartWay report development and submittal process.
The Volvo VN670 will be able to fit to any of ARC's public trailer lineup of:
Wabash 53' Dry Box
Hyundai 53' Dry Box
Great Dane 53' Dry Box
Stoughton 28' Double Pups
Mac Flatbed
As with ARC's other rentable tractors, the Volvo VN670 will allow the use of ARC's proprietary dual balance system allowing for the individual measuring of tractor and trailer forces.

ARC has completed development on NASCAR scale model pneumatic tires and are available to lease for use in the ARC wind tunnel. These tires mimic the actual tire deformation and the profile is based on actual tires. The pneumatic tires allow for a realistic contact patch and sidewall shape when moving through the large camber curves seen on NASCAR cars.
With 800 hours of wind tunnel testing over 2 years, the tires are accurate and repeatable beyond the standard carbon tire technology. ARC is excited to be offering these tires for lease and increasing its customer's aerodynamic knowledge and correlation between track results and the ARC wind tunnel.
ARC is offering a discount for testing from December 2014 to January 15, 2015 using the current Dallara bodykit. This will allow teams to test the current aero spec to better prepare for the upcoming changes. To learn more about this offer, call ARC at 317-291-8600 or email sales@arcindy.com
ARC has developed a new frontier for OEM stylists to further increase their fuel economy efficiency at a significant cost savings. The sculpted underfloor is a highly aerodynamic styled underfloor that directs airflow to lower underbody drag by managing wheel well airflow, novel engine bay air evacuation and diffuser shape flair.
By doing the development during the styling phase of car design, the cost to produce a sculpted underfloor is greatly reduced. ARC has a program in place to allow a 30 day model build.

What is Wind Averaged Drag? A paper by Buckley, Marks and Walston in 1978 highlighted that the average wind speed a truck will see while driving around the United States will be approximately 7mph.
To capture the effect of this on fuel economy it is very important that instead of just focusing on aerodynamic drag at straight ahead (as is usually presented for cars) that a range of yaw angles are tested.
This approach is called wind averaging and it gives a more realistic measure of the drag of a semi-truck.
