Welcome to the Inside Track with ARC. The Auto Research Center is a specialized research facility serving the motorsport, automotive production, commercial, government and bicycle industries. The ARC global headquarters is located in Indianapolis, Indiana which hosts a 50% scale wind tunnel, 7-post, drivetrain test rig, bicycle test facility and CFD cluster center. ARC offers a wide range of solution type packages to further speed and efficiency.
ARC CONSIDERING BID FOR 2018 INDYCAR COMMON BODY KIT
The Central Indiana area has a long history of top notch racing designs and ARC is looking to keep that heritage alive with a possible bid to design and build the 2018 Indycar Common Body Kit. Using local area manufactures and ARC's state of the art aerodynamic and design tools, the body kit would truly be a home grown Indiana based venture for the first time in many years. Using local manufactures, it would create economic opportunities for the Central Indiana area and become a stepping stone towards revitalizing Indianapolis claim of being the Racing Capital of the World.
Would you support keeping the 2018 Indycar Body Kit Design and Manufacture in Central Indiana? Yes Unsure No

USING SPACE AGE TECHNOLOGY TO TEST THE DINOSAUR AGE GONE VIRAL
Global Cycling Network stopped by ARC to do some cycling wind tunnel testing in order to answer an age old question: How aerodynamic was the t-rex? With over a million and a half views, someone has the answer.

AUGMENTED CFD 3D VISUALIZATION
Ever imagine being able to overlay CFD flow visualization on a physical wind tunnel model or full vehicle? Then, be able to walk around the vehicle and watch the flow visualization move with you? ARC is investing in augmented 3D Visualization technology to do just that. ARC's methodology is geared towards designers and stylists to make decisions on their designs faster, with will reduce overall cost to market for their products.
Finding aerodynamic advantages will become much easier with this technology, as it allows an accurate placement of where the flow can be improved. In addition, when using Adjoint CFD technology, the exact areas of the body to be pushed/pulled can be located quickly. Keep your eyes open for more on this technology in the future.

COMVEC 2016: GHG2 REQUIRES WIND TUNNEL TESTS FOR TRAILERS
The 2016 edition of the SAE Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress held in Chicago was filled with interesting topics of discussions. From forums on autonomous commercial vehicle technology to SuperTruck vehicle displays there was a lot to take in. GHG2 took center stage on discussions of best testing methods to achieve regulation approval.
GHG2 regulations have always included tractors, but now trailer manufactures must also meet the new regulations. This opened a discussion on best methodologies on how to test in the most cost effective and accurate manner to quickly achieve the regulations. Wind tunnel testing offers the best for all worlds.
Wind tunnel testing is the most cost effective way to test at ARC. ARC's wind tunnel has been geared towards maximizing commercial vehicle development. Over a decade of scale truck testing has arrived ARC to bring the most effective testing methods available to the commercial vehicle market. ARC stands poised to aid all trailer manufactures through the new GHG2 process.

TECH ZONE
Why is ARC in China?
The reasons for ARC's strong presence in China is many. To start with China manufactures the most cars of any nation. The manufactures there are looking to increase their designs to put them on a level with American, European, Japanese and Korean automotive companies. ARC has found Chinese OEM's are open to consultancy to help them gain a foothold on the automotive world market faster. It's no coincidence that Chinese manufactures recognize ARC has a leader in advanced vehicle aerodynamics and design, including the software spectrum with ELEMENTS CFD.
TECH ZONE is an additional area of our newsletter where each month a customer question will be answered by the related expert at ARC. Please send in any questions you might have, from wind tunnel test instrumentation, CFD workings, to tuning your shocks. Ask your questions at techzone@arcindy.com
